Volunteering at the Mercy INN

A team of 9 to 13 volunteers is needed each day, including one who picks up surplus food for us at Good Samaritan Hospital, one of our principal suppliers. The Daily Pickup Volunteer arrives at the kitchen between 6:00 to 6:30am, having filled seven 5 gallon buckets with surplus food and any canned goods that have been left for us. These he delivers to the kitchen and then records the temperatures of our six freezers and refrigerators.

Equally important is the Cook. He or she decides on the menu, depending on the morning's deliveries and what is on hand. He prepares the meals and cleans the kitchen area, usually with the help of a pot scrubber.

The Daily Coordinator, the "Foreman" for the day, makes sure everything is set up properly and clean at the end of the day. He handles minor emergencies and tells the Volunteer Food and Paper Coordinators what is needed.

Finally, our daily volunteers help with the food preparation, serving and cleanup. They are vital to the smooth functioning of the Mercy INN and without them we would not be able to operate.

Thank you to each and every Volunteer!
